Monad Federal Credit Union was organized and chartered May 31, 1955 by a group of individuals employed by the Northern Pacific Railway. They wanted a place to pool their savings so that they could lend it to each other at affordable rates. This was the original purpose of the credit union since 1955, and still is today. Our beginnings were humble; most business was transacted at the railroad or at the home of our volunteer Treasurer. As the credit union grew, we rented various locations in Pasco until we moved into our current location in May 1975. Our goal is to make our members financially independent by helping them learn to save and borrow prudently. Originally in 1955 we could only serve the employees of the Northern Pacific Railway. Now due to regulatory changes, we include several select employer groups in our field of membership. Our field of membership is not open to the entire community.
Monad is not owned or operated by any of the groups we serve, it is owned and operated by the members. Only individuals in our field of membership can belong to the credit union and each member has one vote. A Board of Directors, made up of unpaid volunteers, is elected by the membership at the annual meeting each year. The directors work for the entire membership of the credit union, not for a small group of stockholders like in other profit driven financial institutions. We strive to make all our services competitively priced so all our members can benefit from what we have to offer.
A "monad" is the insignia that was used by the Northern Pacific and is the circular, two-color logo seen on this web site!
